Horse Quarter Marking Stencils & Tools
Quarter markings are one of the most distinctive elements of a show horse's turnout. Applied to the hindquarters in the final stages of preparation, they draw the eye to the horse's topline and quarters, accentuate muscle definition, and signal to judges that every detail has been attended to. Done well, they elevate a good turnout to a great one — and with the right stencil and technique, they're achievable for any rider willing to practise.
Quarter markings work best on a clean, well-groomed coat that has been brushed in the direction of hair growth first. Apply the stencil firmly against the coat and brush or comb through in a single, confident stroke. Practise at home before competition day to find the pattern and technique that suits your horse's coat and conformation.
